De Beers Group and Angola’s Endiama have made a major breakthrough with the discovery of kimberlite in Angola, a promising sign for future diamond production.

In South Africa, Operation Vala Umgodi led to the arrest of several people linked to illegal mining and immigration offences across the Frances Baard and Namakwa districts.

On the corporate front, Barrick Mining appointed former Ben van Beurden as its new Lead Independent Director, while Seriti’s Mike Teke steps up as chair of the Global Alliance for Sustainable Coal.

Meanwhile, Eastplats reported weaker Q2 financials but secured extended credit from Investec to support underground expansion at its Crocodile River Mine.
