Sibanye-Stillwater has appointed Dr Lindiwe Mthimunye as an independent non-executive director, effective immediately.
Mthimunye is a Chartered Accountant with more than two decades of experience and has worked across the oil and gas, property investment, and investment banking sectors. She holds a CA (SA), an MCom from the University of Cape Town, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Geneva Business School.

She also brings extensive boardroom experience, serving as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Metrofile Holdings since 2025, a non-executive director of Sabvest Capital, and an independent non-executive director of Blue Label Telecoms since 2022.
Mthimunye’s career highlights include senior leadership roles in both finance and energy. She began her career at Rand Merchant Bank in 1999, specialising in structured and project finance, where she contributed to landmark infrastructure transactions such as the Albert Luthuli Hospital public-private partnership, which won Euromoney’s Africa Deal of the Year in 2002.
That same year, she was recognised by the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals as a top performer in the field.

In 2006, she founded Palau Structured Solutions, advising on infrastructure PPPs and B-BBEE acquisitions, before joining Bakoro Property Group to manage township retail investments.
From 2013, she served as Group CFO at PetroSA, where she oversaw strategic cost optimisation, capital raising, and IFRS transition. Since 2016, she has been active in the energy sector, and in 2024, she completed doctoral research on ESG integration and investment implications for South Africa’s coal industry.
Sibanye-Stillwater Chairman, Dr Vincent Maphai, said: “The board is confident that Lindiwe’s appointment will bring valuable insight and strengthen Sibanye-Stillwater.”
The company says the appointment was made in terms of Section 3.59 of the JSE Listings Requirements.
