Perseus Mining appoints Jim Rutherford as independent director

Perseus Mining Limited has appointed James Rutherford to its board as a non-executive, independent director, effective immediately.

Rutherford is a seasoned investment professional with more than 25 years of experience in investment management and banking, specialising in the global mining and metals sector. He brings deep financial and corporate insight, supported by extensive international experience.

From 1997 to 2013, he served as senior vice president at Capital Group, where he led investments in the global mining sector. He previously held roles at HSBC James Capel in New York, covering Latin American mining, and at Credit Lyonnais Securities.

Rutherford is currently the director of Manara Minerals Investment Co.—a joint venture between Ma’aden and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund—as well as a non-executive director at Ecora Resources plc and Minera Cobre de Colombia.

His past board roles include serving as a non-executive director at Anglo American plc from 2013 to 2020, non-executive chairman of Centamin plc from 2020 to 2024, lead independent director of GT Gold until its acquisition by Newmont in 2021, and chairman of Dalradian Resources from 2015 to 2018.

He holds a BSc in Economics and Computer Science from Queen’s University Belfast and an MA in Development Economics from the University of Sussex. He is also an alumnus of the London Business School.

Perseus Chairman Rick Menell welcomed the appointment, noting Rutherford’s “extensive experience in the resources sector and deep expertise in financial markets,” which will support the company’s strategic growth and ongoing board renewal.
