Prospect Resources Limited has identified a compelling new copper drill target at its West Mwombezhi prospect, part of the Mumbezhi Copper Project (85% PSC) in north-west Zambia.
This follows encouraging results from a recent aircore drilling campaign, which revealed highly anomalous shallow copper mineralisation and prompted the launch of a follow-up diamond drilling programme.
The announcement is a significant milestone in Prospect’s broader regional exploration strategy at Mumbezhi and underscores the growing copper potential across the company’s Zambian portfolio.

Key highlights
- A new shallow copper target is defined at West Mwombezhi over 1 km of strike.
- Aircore drilling intersected anomalous copper values (>0.05% Cu) at shallow depths in a new eastern target zone.
- Best intercepts include:
- 22m @ 0.17% Cu from 8m (open at end of hole) – MWAC008
- 23m @ 0.09% Cu from surface (open) – MWAC016
- 7m @ 0.21% Cu from 17m (open) – MWAC052
- 17m @ 0.10% Cu from 8m (open) – MWAC015
- Additional strong hits from holes MWAC023, MWAC026, MWAC035, MWAC053, and MWAC003.
- Diamond drilling is now underway to test the continuity of this mineralisation at depth.
- The new zone lies 13km northeast of Nyungu Central, near infrastructure, and was previously untested by historical drilling.
New target zone results
Aircore drilling at West Mwombezhi targeted two geochemical anomalies defined by termite mound sampling over a 1.5 km-long copper trend. The programme consisted of 69 shallow drill holes (totalling 1,387 metres) drilled on a tight 200m x 50m grid.

The results confirmed high-grade copper mineralisation near the surface, with multiple holes ending in mineralisation, reinforcing the scale and potential of the new eastern target zone.
The company noted that assays from several holes (MWAC044–049 and MWAC055–069) remain pending, with results expected in upcoming weeks. All current assay data was acquired using portable XRF devices, with laboratory verification in progress.
While Argonaut Resources conducted limited drilling in the area in 2014 (four diamond holes), those efforts were focused 1 km west of the current target zone and returned low-grade results. Crucially, Argonaut did not drill the now-identified eastern anomaly, despite encouraging soil geochemistry.

Prospect Resources begins Phase 2 drilling at Mumbezhi Project
With robust datasets now supporting subsurface continuity, the Phase 2 diamond drilling programme is testing this underexplored zone to depth for the first time.
Prospect’s Managing Director and CEO, Sam Hosack, commented, “I’m very pleased with the results of the recent aircore drilling at this high-potential target area at West Mwombezhi. Our systematic approach to geochemistry and drilling is paying off, and with a diamond rig now on site, we are excited to test the depth potential of this newly defined copper zone.”

He added, “With rigs now active at West Mwombezhi, Nyungu South, and Nyungu North, and multiple assays pending, we expect a busy quarter of news flow as exploration progresses across the Mumbezhi corridor.”
Phase 2 drilling
Prospect confirmed that its Phase 2 diamond drilling programme is ~77% complete, on both schedule and budget. Resource definition drilling at Nyungu Central and Kabikupa is now finished, and the focus has shifted to high-potential regional targets.
Ongoing initiatives include:
- Diamond drilling underway at West Mwombezhi, Nyungu South, and Nyungu North.
- The Aircore rig was redeployed to investigate surface anomalies at Chalamba, Nyungu North, and Nyungu South.
- Assay delays continue due to a regional backlog from peak dry-season exploration across Zambia.
- Updated JORC resource estimates for Nyungu Central and Kabikupa targeted for Q4 2025.
Upcoming exploration
- Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) Survey: Completed, with results and interpretation due September 2025.
- Geochemical Soil Sampling (GeoQuest): Nearing completion; full assay results expected by October 2025.
- Regional IP Surveys: To commence across high-priority anomalies, including Kamafamba, Luamvunda, and Shikezi.
- Diamond drilling results: Pending for numerous holes across all three active prospects.
The discovery of this new shallow copper zone at West Mwombezhi represents a significant advancement for Prospect Resources and its Zambian exploration portfolio. With drilling activity ramping up and multiple regional targets in play, the coming months are expected to yield critical assay results and updated resource estimates, positioning Prospect as a rising player in Zambia’s globally significant copper belt.
