Marie-Chantal Kaninda to speak at Women in Mining Leadership Forum at DMW 2025

Marie-Chantal Kaninda, President of Glencore DRC and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) will be a featured speaker at the Women—Mine and Leadership Forum on June 13, 2025, held as part of DRC Mining Week.

Kaninda has over 25 years of experience in the mining industry and has held high-level positions at prominent international companies such as Ashanti Goldfields, AngloGold Ashanti, De Beers, and Rio Tinto. She made history as the first female leader of the World Diamond Council, where she advocated for ethical governance and worked to combat the global illicit diamond trade. Since January 2023, she has been leading Glencore DRC, one of the largest mining firms in the country, and serves as the chair of the board for KCC, an important joint venture between Gécamines and Glencore.

Her career is distinguished by her advocacy for women’s empowerment and education in the mining sector. Kaninda founded the MCKM Foundation, which promotes girls’ education and has awarded over 300 scholarships in the DRC. She is also a mentor to young women entrepreneurs and actively supports greater inclusion of women in mining and technical professions.

At the forum, Kaninda will share insights on leadership, sustainable mining practices, and the role of women in shaping the future of the industry in the DRC. She joins other influential women leaders, including Mwewa Dorothée Masele, President of Women in Mining DRC, who will address the impact of mineral conflicts on women and strategies for strengthening female leadership.
