Kamoa Copper launches Kamoa 2 with traditional blessing ceremony

Kamoa Copper has officially launched its next phase of growth with the ceremonial opening of the Kamoa 2 project, marked by a traditional blessing led by Chief Musele Musokantanda and Chief Muvunda.

Held on site, the ceremony honoured the land and its people, setting a respectful and culturally grounded tone for the development ahead. The company said the event reflected its long-standing commitment to integrating local customs into its operations and promoting sustainable, community-driven progress.

“Kamoa 2 is not just a project milestone. It symbolises our respect for the people and traditions of this region, and our belief that development must go hand in hand with cultural heritage and community wellbeing,” the company said in a LinkedIn post.

Kamoa 2 is set to be developed as an underground mine, in line with Kamoa Copper’s strategy to reduce environmental impact and support long-term operational sustainability. This new phase will build on the success of Kamoa-Kakula’s first phase, which is recognised as one of the highest-grade copper operations in the world.

The company added that the project would be guided by its core values — Agility, Integrity, Excellence and Compassion — which shape both its internal culture and external partnerships.

As construction begins, Kamoa Copper reiterated its goal of building not only a world-class mining operation but also a legacy of shared prosperity in the region.

“This project is a continuation of our journey toward sustainable development, responsible mining, and meaningful collaboration with our host communities,” the post read.
