The 2025 Joburg Indaba, now in its 13th year, will take place on 8 and 9 October at the Inanda Club in Sandton, Johannesburg. Known for attracting some of the most influential voices in mining, the Indaba has become a cornerstone event on the South African mining calendar.
It brings together stakeholders across the spectrum—mining companies, investors, government, state-owned enterprises, advisory firms, and legal experts—to engage in robust discussions on the future of the country’s mining industry.

This year’s programme is packed with high-profile speakers and thought-provoking sessions. The agenda opens with a keynote conversation with Duncan Wanblad, CEO of Anglo American, offering insight into the company’s outlook on South Africa and the African continent.
Another headline session includes Paul Dunne, President of the Minerals Council South Africa and CEO of Northam Platinum, tackling the critical issue of balancing growth and transformation in the sector.

Other key themes will include the geopolitical landscape’s impact on mining, explored by industry leaders such as Wickus Botha (EY), Richard Stewart (Sibanye-Stillwater), and Lullu Krugel (PwC). The Indaba will also feature a one-on-one with Ben Magara, CEO of Exxaro Resources, and a panel on the importance of PGMs, featuring Craig Miller (Valterra Platinum) and Nico Muller (Implats).
The Northern Cape’s mining potential will be highlighted by Mpumi Zikalala, CEO of Kumba Iron Ore, while gold’s ongoing relevance will be debated in a panel including Richard Cox of Sibanye-Stillwater. A critical discussion on coal’s role in a just energy transition will feature Mike Teke (Seriti) and Moses Madondo (Thungela).
Infrastructure, always a pressing issue, will be addressed by Adv. Michelle Philips, CEO of Transnet, who will update attendees on progress in rail and port reform.
