Mining companies across the Asia-Pacific region are being invited to participate in a webinar discussion on ways in which 3D printing can enable mining operations in remote locations to access vital spare parts in a matter of hours without holding massive inventories.

The event is being presented by Markforged, a world leader in additive manufacturing, and will feature a panel of experts in the field of mining MRO.

Richard Elving, Markforged’s Vice President, Asia-Pacific, said additive manufacturing was already playing a role in helping mining companies to meet the demand for vital spare parts on remote sites, reduce the need to maintain expensive on-site spares inventories, and eliminate costly down-time caused by suppliers’ lead times and transportation issues.

“In effect, the technology enables miners to establish secure digital inventories stored in the Cloud, ready to be printed on demand and on site, using a range of fit-for-purpose materials suited to specific applications,” said Mr. Elving.

“At the webinar we’ll be reviewing case studies showing how many mining companies are already bringing the future management of MRO into the present by doing this, and examining practical strategies on the start-up application of AM on remote sites,” he said.

The panel of expert speakers will include Gareth Hughes, CEO of Quarry Mining, who will discuss how his company has already harnessed additive manufacturing to overcome supply chain and maintenance challenges in the field; James Moody, Business Operations Manager of WA-based CADDS Group, for whom the technology plays a key role in the leading-edge services they provide to Rio Tinto; and Masa Okuno, Senior Application Engineer at Markforged, who will share insights into the technology, applications and strategies that enable mining companies to adopt AM effectively.

The Markforged webinar will be held on Wednesday, October 29, at 10.00am AWST and SGT, 1.00pm AEDT and 3.00pm NZT.
