Southern Africa’s key stakeholders in the energy and coal sectors will gather for the Coal & Energy Transition Day, taking place on Wednesday, 23 July, at the Houghton Hotel, Houghton Estate, Johannesburg.

Bringing together leading voices from government, coal producers, SOEs including Eskom and Transnet, alternative energy providers, investors, legal and advisory professionals, and other critical players, the day promises rich insights and robust dialogue around the future of coal and the broader energy transition.

• A conversation with Mike Teke, Group CEO of Seriti Resources, on “The Future of Coal and Coal for the Future”—a ”critical reflection on coal’s evolving role in a just energy transition.
• Vuslat Bayoglu, Managing Director of Menar, will deliver a provocative address on the surging energy demands driven by artificial intelligence and how coal could be reintroduced as a sustainable resource in that context.
• Eskom’s perspective on coal and its roadmap to renewable energy, presented by Nontokozo Hadebe, Group Executive for Strategy & Sustainability.
• A vital discussion on reversing coal industry productivity decline by Andy Sherring, CEO, NextGenOpX.
